The UAE’s tax system has entered a new phase of maturity, with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) announcing that corporate tax registrants surpassed 651,000 by the end of September 2025. This reflects a strong uptake of the landmark tax framework designed to enhance fiscal sustainability and global competitiveness.

In a recent report, the FTA also confirmed 547,000 VAT registrants, 1,777 excise tax registrants, and 806 registered tax agents operating nationwide. The figures demonstrate the strength of the UAE’s legislative and digital infrastructure, which has contributed to establishing it as a leading global financial hub.

The Authority highlighted significant improvements in service delivery, processing AED 115.4 million ($31.4 million) in VAT refunds for citizens with newly built homes during August and September alone. The surge in efficiency is largely attributed to the EmaraTax digital services platform, which now seamlessly handles thousands of daily transactions, including tax return submissions and payments.

Under the direction of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE, and Chairman of the FTA Board, the authority is advancing key initiatives. The FTA Board has approved its budget for 2026 and finalised legislative requirements for the E-Invoicing Project, which is being developed with the Ministry of Finance.

Furthermore, the Board endorsed new operational policies for calculating excise tax on sweetened drinks. A tiered volumetric model will link tax rates directly to sugar content, aligning with the UAE’s broader health-focused tax reforms.

Sheikh Maktoum commended the progress and directed the FTA to continue its modernisation drive, ensuring its services align with the highest international standards. The authority’s ongoing awareness campaigns are credited with maintaining some of the world’s highest voluntary compliance rates.
