Marriott International’s EDITION Hotels has launched its first property on Shura Island, marking a significant step in Saudi Arabia’s multi-billion-dollar plan to transform its Red Sea coastline into a global luxury tourism destination. The 240-room resort represents a key development in the kingdom’s Vision 2030 strategy.

The Red Sea EDITION has officially opened, becoming the first hotel on Shura Island and the second EDITION property in Saudi Arabia. Located within the ambitious Red Sea project led by state-backed developer Red Sea Global (RSG), the resort embodies a pioneering approach to regenerative tourism.

Designed by the Rockwell Group, the hotel incorporates natural materials like coral stone, oak, and rammed earth, reflecting the surrounding landscape. It offers one- and two-bedroom suites, outdoor pools, a spa, gym, and multiple dining venues. Uniquely, the property will be powered entirely by renewable energy, underscoring its commitment to environmental preservation.

“This opening marks a significant milestone in the brand’s continued growth across the region,” said George Fleck, EDITION’s Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader.

The resort is part of the larger Red Sea project, which encompasses over 90 islands, coral reefs, and lagoons. The destination aims to eventually attract up to one million visitors annually and includes Saudi Arabia’s first 18-hole island golf course.

Accessible via Red Sea International Airport, the hotel represents a crucial component of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to diversify its economy and attract international tourists under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 strategy.

Tony Coveney, Area General Manager for Marriott Luxury Group, emphasized the significance, stating, “We are incredibly proud to have the honour of being the first official opening on the island.”
